Our aims

The Chair pursues two main aims:

A) Increase the interest and enhance knowledge in the field of EU law, in order to prepare the targeted learners to be future political and economic leaders, as well as opinion leaders and law-makers. Under the first aim of the project, seven sub-objectives will be pursued:

  • The motivation for the participation of learners in an innovative two-way training and research process with the aim to better comprehend fundamental concepts and dynamics of the European Union, to overcome growing distrust observed in Greek citizens regarding the “European ideal”, to gain professional experience before graduation and to acquire academic capital.
  • The attraction of undergraduate and graduate students to think-tanking and debating activities on controversial European issues, particularly in light of the growing Euro-scepticism observed in Greece lately.
  • The development and improvement of the teaching methods and procedures of the relevant courses, resulting in better quality management of the EU law education and training.
  • The improvement of teaching materials, the acquisition of reference materials, equipment, etc. shall contribute to the increase of the scientific quality of the written papers and the efficiency of the research activity.
  • The development of capacities for further professional training for future policy and lawmakers as well as opinion leaders.
  • The mobility of researchers with short study visits.
  • The emergence of synergies for the creation of new patterns in education, training, research, and information with the cooperation of the Chair with countries of geographic proximity such as South-eastern Europe and the Euro-Mediterranean region.

B) Inform the public about recent developments in the EU, confronting Euroscepticism in Greece, and readdressing the benefits of European integration. Under the second aim of the project, three sub-objectives will be pursued:

  • The increased cooperation between academia and civil society will enhance the capacities of professors and researchers and address society’s needs. This objective will be achieved by the organization of seminars and events on controversial and crucial topics.
  • The development of new tools to improve information and dissemination in a region hard stricken by the economic crisis (Northern Greece).
  • The revitalisation of the values of solidarity, democracy, cultural diversity, and the rule of law within the European context and the raising of the interest of the academic society and the public in the challenges of European integration.
