With this edition of the proceedings of the international conference, the Jean Monnet Chair of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia launches a new series of publications. This series will contain the proceedings of the scientific conferences that the Chair co-organizes as well as the research that it conducts.
The Jean Monnet Chair of the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia and the Centre of International and European Economic Law have co-organised the three-day International Jean Monnet Conference titled “Developments and Challenges in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice of the EU” in order to serve a double purpose: first, to obtain a current map of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, and second, to hold an interdisciplinary discussion of all the challenges that this Area brings forth, by academics, practitioners, and civil society. The Conference, which was held in Thessaloniki, from the 14th until the 16th of February 2013, was attended by 500 persons.
The conference was dedicated to the late Member of the European Parliament and Judge of the European Court of Human Rights Professor Dimitrios Evrigenis, since his multi-faceted work is directly related to the aspects of the Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice.

Το παρόν βιβλίο αναλύει το δίκαιο διεθνών συναλλαγών σε δύο επίπεδα, το διεθνές και το ευρωπαϊκό, εξετάζοντας την αλληλεπίδρασή τους, ιδίως μέσα στο πλαίσιο των διεθνών συμφωνιών της ΕΕ με τρίτες χώρες. Κατατοπίζει τον αναγνώστη για τους κανόνες, άτυπους ή δεσμευτικούς, που ισχύουν για: τη διεθνή πώληση κινητών (CISG, αρχές UNIDROIT και PECL), τους όρους του διεθνούς εμπορίου (Incoterms 2000 και 2010), το εφαρμοστέο δίκαιο στις ενοχές εκ συμβάσεως αλλά και στην εξωσυμβατική ευθύνη, το ηλεκτρονικό εμπόριο, την προστασία των καταναλωτών, την προστασία του ελεύθερου ανταγωνισμού, τη δικαστική επίλυση των διασυνοριακών διαφορών (όπως διεθνής δικαιοδοσία και αμοιβαία αναγνώριση δικαστικών αποφάσεων, διεξαγωγή αποδείξεων και επιδόσεων στην αλλοδαπή, ευρωπαϊκή διαταγή πληρωμής) καθώς και τη διεθνή εμπορική διαιτησία και τη διαμεσολάβηση. Κατά τον τρόπο αυτό, αναδεικνύεται η ευρωπαϊκή διάσταση του δικαίου διεθνών συναλλαγών και η ενίοτε εξωεδαφική εφαρμογή των κανόνων της ΕΕ.

The book explores the progress of European integration in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice as well as the latest developments and upcoming challenges regarding the development of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice and their implications for the citizens. The book is a collective volume exploring the issues of Criminal and Civil Justice, Border Management, Migration and Asylum and human rights from a multidisciplinary perspective.
